Miami 70.3 Recap...finally !

Image
I thought : why not end the season in Miami Beach ?!? You know, to drink a fresh margarita, by the beach, is by far one of the best ways to celebrate the end of the triathlon season and the beginning of winter. Ah, but I still had a goal to achieve… Miami 70.3 !  BEFORE THE RACE  The race was on Sunday the 27th so I arrived on Wednesday the 23 rd to get used to South Florida heat. With a couple of friends, I rented a cozy, but small apartment on South Beach. I had to sleep on the coach. Between my friends, only Steve was also racing.   On Thursday, Steve and I went training and I got nervous about the swim. I realised we were going to swim in salty water and that I was drinking way too much of it. Actually, that must be the reason why I don’t have hydration issues during my races even though I clearly don’t hydrate as much as I should be. But that won’t work with salty water. So, I tested different breathing ways to drink less water. The day before the race,

Disguise as a Girl

It's the time of the year where all the Rouge et Or athletes are unrecognizables because they are all well dressed up. Each year, I play the game. Here is what I could manage in 15 minutes...  "Ain't nobody got time for that ".   Pamela, Francine, Élise, Martine and I Élise and I Yes, observers, Elise put on two different dresses in the same night ! *** Today, we had a 1500m swim trial long course. Result ? 20:51 Happy girl :D *** I had an illumination this week. I am going to go back home this summer to FINALLY start working in September. A long story. However, this life changing decision should not change my triathlon calendar for this summer.

It Was Worth Getting a Raccoon

I’m in Montreal, in transit between Florida and my final destination, Quebec city. By the way, what a waste of time to wait 4 hours at Montreal airport when it would have taken me half the time to get to Quebec city by car. Just saying. I have the blues I already miss the athlete’s type of life I was living in the past three weeks : sleep, eat, train, eat, watch a film, train, eat, play Beans, snack, sleep. Repeat 21 times minus two light days. Actually, I had some homework and administrative works for the triathlon club to do, but not enough to mention really. I miss to ride on dry roads, to swim outside and to wear short clothes. Short wrap up 21 days in Clermont 40h of biking, 1175km 18h of running, 230km 21h of swimming, 65km (approximately, because we often swam in yards) Best running moment  : 4x2000m on track in 7:27 with 3:30 recovery Best swimming moment  : Long course, 3 times the following set: 200m AO en 2:35/4min + 100AO en 1:15/2min +

First Half of our Training Camp

Meeting the turtle, I was a bit nervous More than a week done and I'm feeling stronger than ever ! We were a little worried at the beginning because of the cold weather. The first days, we were going to the pool with all the warmer clothes we had brought and still couldn't get warm enough. Luckily, the NTC pool is heated... when it's not too windy. The thing is, it was too windy so they couldn't leave the pool tarp during the night. Some ended up wearing their wetsuit and we weren't taken much break between the sets. However, since friday, the hot Florida sun is back and our tan is getting better. Running at the NTC track I have to say, after our two first group bike rides, I was desperate. I was wondering how I would get through this training camp with my old and heavy bike. I should have brought my TT bike. In addition to my bike problems, I had trouble with my injuries to the right foot and to the right IT Band. Sincerely, I was asking myself why I

I was extremely nervous last Sunday at McGill University where I had to run a 3km on an inside track for the first time since high school. The goal was 10 :35 at the slowest.  At the gun shot, what a start I had, because I was sitting second behind Sarah who was doing our 3 :30/km rabbit for the first kilometer. Hypnotised by following her, I did the first 1000meters in 3 :20. When I saw that time on the clock during the race, I was a bit shocked because I never thought I could run that fast while being that confortable. However, I knew I’ll have to pay for an ambitious start. It started at the 2km mark. I didn’t hit the wall, but my legs slowly faded. A few girls passed me. I was looking at the clock at every lap and calculating the time I was loosing and the chances I could still reach my goal.   Finally, thanks to my excellent sprint abilities (NOT !), I ran 10 :33. What a terrible positive split ! Anyway, I quickly forgot about my performance to celebrate my friends out
