Bring It On !

Year 2016 is far gone. It wasn't the end of it that my aim was already on 2017 and the next four years. Teaching is quite flexible. We have holidays and we have short days sometimes. However, it's exhausting. This year, every day I have a class with the 14 years old, it feels like I ran a half-marathon. And in about 4 months, I got a sinusitis, an unbeatable cold and a gastroenteritis. Top shape, really ! In Cozumel, after my unfinished race, I lay down on the beach, both feet in the sand, the Mexican sun burning and I thought... I'm 28 years old with one broken tooth and an old back, but still full of potential. I'm strong enough for both the swim and the run, but I'm way behind when it comes to the bike. If I could cut down 20 minutes on the bike, I would be less than 5% behind the winner. If I cut down another 10 on the bike and a 10 elsewhere, I'm up for Kona. Back in the pool

How I will look like at the pool this week In order to balance my professional and social life with my trainings, I haven't swum since September. Well, I have, like 5 or 6 times, which is really like I haven't. In fact, my coach and I thought I should maximize my time on the run and the bike because that's where I lose most of time to my rivals. However, it couldn't last forever. Time has come to go back to the pool ! I've asked a good friend of mine, Coach Oli, whom I consider the best swimming coach, to help me get a swimming shape in less than three months. What a challenge ! With Spring on its way and numerous cycling hours outside coming, weeks won't get easier. It's exciting :) Finally, in exactly a month, I'll be launching my 2015 season at Montreal Half-Marathon. I ran the course twice before. In 2012, I ran 1:27:59 and, in 2013, I ran 1:25:12. Sprint Triahtlon ? Why not !

To you, newbies, learn from the following mistakes. Last week, I decided to fix my bike myself (mistake #1). So, 4 days before the race, I had to bring my bike to an unknown bike shop (mistake #2). The day before the race, I try my bike for the first time ever (mistake #3). My aerobars are too low. "Anyone has a torx tool ?" I left mine at home (mistake #4) and this new bike has torx screws everywhere instead of hex screws... "Thanks, Michel". I fix the aerobars. Next, I try to shift gears, but it doesn't work. "Chuck? Can you take a look ?". Oh ! The wire is slack. This time, I need a hex tool to fix it. Finally, I go for a tense 45km bike ride. It takes some time to get used to the new fit.
